Madrone’s Story

nanamadrone

Madrone was born in the spring of 2008 along with his gray twin sister Manzanita.  Their mother Camellia was a very sweet and loving to her dear babies.  The soft, low call she would give them to come and nurse would bring the lambs speeding across the barnyard to eat.

Madrone has grown into one of the biggest sheep in the flock.  He is a big love and has taken years to overcome a shyness.  Now he approaches for a soft pet along the tight curls of his cheek.  His favorite treat is salted crackers.

Since he is so large Madrone grows a heavy fleece weighing approximately 9 lbs.  His fleece holds lovely tight, tendril curls, distinct to his Wensleydale breed.

Watching these babies grow up I can see the deep bond between families. After this experience I could never sell them off or separate them as most farms do.

Plum Blossom Farm is unique because all of the animals have a forever home here. Unlike other sheep farms, no animals are ever sold off to slaughter when they are done being “useful”. All our sheep are sweet individuals and each one is like a family member to us. Thanks so much for supporting this compassionate small farm!Handsome Madrone
